Adding a Living or Green Roof to a structure can help with temperature control, stormwater runoff, and longevity for the roof membrane. Plantings on the roof contribute to the local wildlife habitat and provide a cooler summer environment in addition to the aesthetics of a green and fertile roof landscape.

Join Living Web Farms’ Energy and Resource Coordinator, Richard Freudenberger, to explore the benefits of building or adapting a living roof for appropriate structures. We’ll discuss planning, design, structural needs, materials, drainage, and soil mediums. We’ll also look at native and the best non-native plant choices, tolerances, and maintenance considerations, using the green roof on Living Web Farms’ Black Soldier Fly facility for examples.
